As an avid reader, a book themed baby shower was perfect for Mom-to-be, Elisha. Since Elisha was having a boy she wanted a shower fit for a boy, but with a feminine touch. She also wanted to incorporate an equestrian touch to show her childhood love of horses.
I was thrilled to be her Bay Area event planner.
The Design
Elisha and I decided on a palette of navy, white and lime for this book themed baby shower. We chose navy linens with a burlap runner. Which I trimmed in lace to lend a feminine touch. The venue had perfect blue votives to set down the length of the runner.
I asked Elisha for her favorite childhood literary quotes and turned them into decorative signage. I brought vintage western young adult books from my personal collection to adorn the room. Thanks to some talented artists on Etsy I found paper-punch garlands in the event’s colors, plus one made from a vintage dictionary. A lace and burlap bunting was hung along a velvet drape, for a onesie game. More on games below!
Baby Shower Games
Elisha wanted to incorporate games that were interactive and light hearted, but not cheesy. I suggested a round of He Said – She Said. I collected quotes from Elisha & her husband Andrew and sent them to stationer Penny Ann Designs. Guests were asked to answer each question on the card. Then questions were asked aloud to the guests. To indicate their guess, whether he said it or she said it, they held up pink sparkly lips or a black sparkly mustache. It was fun and comical!
Guests were asked ahead of the party to bring a onesie that epitomized their personal style. As they entered the party they anonymously placed their onesie in a decorative basket. I hung them up on the bunting and Elishan plus the guests took turns guessing which onesie matched with each guest. It was fun to see how well folks did representing their personal style and the hung up onesies created a decor element to boot!
